Huawei has a great reputation in the smartphone industry due to its timely Android updates. The company already announced the list of Huawei and Honor phones to get Google’s latest Android 8.0 Oreo based EMUI 8.0 update back in January. Fulfilling the promise, today Huawei has started rolling out Android Oreo based EMUI 8.0 update to at least 7 of its devices.
The list of Huawei phones currently receiving the latest update includes Huawei Mate 8, Huawei P9, P9 Plus, Honor 8, Honor V8, Honor Note 8, and Honor Play 6X. It is worth noting that these models already received Android Oreo beta update back in May this year. Of all the models, the users of Honor 8 will be happier as there were reports that the smartphone is not compatible with the new EMUI version due to some “hardware and software limitations”. However, the company had later confirmed that the new functions of EMUI 8.0 would be ported to Honor 8 to offer best user experience.
The Android 8.0 Oreo based EMUI 8.0 update is a stable one and is rolling out in phases from July 9 to July 15. According to GizmoChina, only 5,000 units of each model will get the update per day during this time period. After that, the update will be open to all users via OTA. The update brings the total number of Huawei models that have been successfully upgraded to Android 8.0 based EMUI 8 to 20. Before this, the company rolled out the same update to Huawei P10, P10 Plus, Honor 9, Honor V9, Honor 8 Youth edition, Honor 7X, Huawei Nova, Nova 2, Nova 2 Plus, Maimang 6, Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro, and Mate 9 Porsche edition.
