Huawei is putting its maximum efforts on the development of its own operating system called the Harmony OS which the company already announced at its Annual Developer Conference 2019 event in China. Moreover, the company also introduced its first product called the Honor Vision Smart TV running on Harmony OS under the Honor branding. However, this new OS will be used to Huawei smartphones if and only if the company loses Android license. Huawei already confirmed this by stating that the Harmony OS is its plan B and the first priority will always Google’s Android operating system. Thus, Huawei’s latest EMUI 10 skin is still based on Android (Android Q).
At the Huawei Annual Developer Conference, the company announced the EMUI 10 and also revealed the list of Huawei and Honor devices eligible to get the EMUI 10 update. Moreover, Huawei also announced that the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro will start receiving the EMUI 10 Beta update starting from September 8, 2019. Today, the timeline for EMUI 10 beta update for more Huawei devices has been released.
According to a report from XDA, the EMUI 10 beta update will be available for 4 more Huawei devices in late September 2019. This includes the Huawei Mate 20, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, Huawei Mate 20 X, and Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design.
There are also four Honor devices namely the Honor 20, Honor 20 Pro, Honor View 20, and Honor Magic 2 scheduled to get the Android Q-based Magic UI 3.0 update in late September 2019 as well. To make you clear, the Magic UI is no more than a rebranded EMUI for Honor devices.
Coming to the changelog, the EMUI 10 update brings a bunch of new features and performance improvements. The Dark Mode is one of the biggest highlights of the EMUI 10. Huawei claims that the new Dark Mode will make any app dark even if has not been updated by the developer. While this sounds great, there will be certain apps that might not look good with the forced dark mode.
Other changes include a simplification of the Settings app, a few changes to the Camera UI, a new swipe up gesture to access the app drawer, and other security improvements. You can also check the complete list of EMUI 10 Features here.
Initially, the EMUI 10 beta update for Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X, and Mate 20 RS Porsche Design is limited to Chinese region. This doesn’t mean that the global variants will take much time to get EMUI 10 beta update. They can also expect it soon.
