Honor Magic 2 with Six Cameras, In-Display Fingerprint Sensor, and Slider Design announced

Huawei’s Honor brand expanded its smartphone portfolio with the launch of the latest flagship smartphone, the Honor Magic 2 at an event in China on Wednesday. It is the company’s first smartphone to feature six cameras set up – three on the rear panel and three on the front. The Honor Magic 2 has a sliding mechanism and the front cameras are revealed by sliding the display down. It is the same mechanism Xiaomi introduced in the Mi Mix 3 flagship device. An in-display fingerprint sensor and a flagship Kirin 980 SoC are the other highlights of the device.

The Honor Magic 2 comes with a 6.39-inch Full HD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) AMOLED display with a pixel density of 403ppi and a 91.5 percent screen-to-body ratio. The display slides down to reveal the front camera and 3D Face Unlock sensors. There are a primary 16MP selfie camera and two 2MP depth sensors that will also allow for portrait photography.

On the rear panel, you will also see three cameras setup vertically on the top left corner. It includes a 16MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, 24MP secondary monochrome sensor with f/1.8 aperture, 16MP super wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture, LED flash, AIS, AI intelligent stabilization. There is no fingerprint scanner on the rear panel as the company provides an in-display fingerprint sensor for Huawei Magic 2.

Honor Magic 2 is powered by the company’s latest Kirin 980 processor coupled with 720 MHz ARM Mali-G76MP10 GPU and 6GB/8GB of RAM. It comes in 128GB or 256GB storage variants without any microSD card support for memory expansion. The device features dual SIM support, runs on Android 9.0 Pie based EMUI 9.0 and back up by a 3500mAh battery with 40W SuperCharge.

Apart from Honor Maic 2, Honor also launched three other products at the same launch event. It includes an Honor WaterPlay 8 Tablet, an Honor Watch Magic smartwatch that is similar to the Huawei Watch GT and an Honor FlyPods which have similar design to that of Apple’s AirPods. All these are currently released for the Chinese market.

Price and Availability:

The Honor Magic 2 comes in Gradient Black, Gradient Red, and Gradient Blue colors, is priced at 3799 yuan (US$ 544 / Rs. 40,295 approx.) for the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage version, 4299 yuan (US$ 616 / Rs. 45,610 approx.)  for the 8GB RAM with 128GB storage version and the 8GB RAM with 256GB storage version costs 4799 yuan (US$ 688 / Rs. 50,910 approx.). It will be available for order from November 1st and goes on sale from November 6th in China. There is no word on whether the phone will make it to other global markets including India.
