Huawei on Friday announced its latest Nova 5 series at a press event in China as promised. There are a total of three smartphones in its latest Nova 5 series – the Huawei Nova 5, Nova 5 Pro, and the Nova 5i. Of all, the Huawei Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro are high-end models while the Nova 5i is the affordable one. Alongside the smartphone lineup, the Chinese Telecom tech also revealed the new HiSilicon Kirin 810 SoC and the Huawei Nova 5 will be the company’s first handset to feature this chipset.
The Huawei Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro comes with a waterdrop-style notch, glass back with 3D lighting effect, curved edges, and a slim body. Both the smartphones come with the in-display fingerprint sensor. Huawei at the launch event also shared that it has successfully shipped over 100 million smartphones this year until May 30.
Huawei Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro – Specifications
Both the Huawei Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro comes with a 6.39-inch (2340 x 1080 pixels) FHD+ OLED HDR display, runs on Android 9.0 Pie-based EMUI 9.1.1 OS, and features an in-display fingerprint sensor. In terms of hardware, the Nova 5 Pro is powered by a Kirin 980 SoC coupled with Mali-G76MP10 GPU. On the other hand, the Nova 5 is powered by the company’s new Kirin 810 SoC with Mali-G52MP6 GPU.
The Nova 5 offers 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage while the Nova 5 Pro has 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage options. There is also NM card support for memory expansion up to 256GB.
Considering the camera optics, both the smartphones sport quad rear camera setup – a 48-megapixels main camera with f/1.8 aperture, 16-megapixels Ultra-Wide Angle lens with f/2.2 aperture, 2-megapixels macro lens with f/2.4 aperture, and a 2-megapixel depth camera with f/2.4 aperture. For taking selfies, Huawei has allocated a 32-megapixel front camera similar to that of Huawei P30 and Honor 20 series smartphones.
Both the Huawei Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro handsets are equipped with 3,500mAh batteries. Also, these smartphones support 40W fast charging that can charge these devices up to 85 percent capacity in just 30 minutes. Other features of the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro smartphones include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB-C, and 3.5mm audio jack.
Price and Availability:
The HUAWEI Nova 5 comes in Black, Purple and Green colors and is priced at 2799 yuan (US$ 407 / Rs. 28,335 approx.) for the only 8GB RAM with 128GB storage version. It will be available for order in China from July 13th and go on sale from 20th July.
On the other hand, the Huawei Nova 5 Pro comes in four different color options – Black, Purple, Green, and Orange. Coming to pricing, the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage costs 2999 Yuan (US$ 436 / Rs. 30,360 approx.) while the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage is priced at 3399 Yuan (US$ 494 / Rs. 34,410 approx.). There is also a limited edition of Huawei Nova 5 Pro is priced at 3799 Yuan and comes with free Bluetooth earphones.
