Huawei P20 series, Mate 20 Lite, Mate RS, and Nova 3 gets Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9.0 update

Huawei P20 series, Huawei Mate 20 Lite, Huawei Mate RS, and Huawei Nova 3 reportedly receiving stable Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9.0 update. It is a global rollout, so each and every user will soon see an update notification on their device display. Earlier this month, Huawei announced EMUI 9.1 public beta recruitment for 14 Huawei and Honor devices.

Alongside the above handsets, the Huawei Mate 10, Mate 9, and P10 series also getting the taste Google’s latest mobile operating system. Like always, the update is pushed in a phase-wise manner which might take a couple of days to hit each and every handset across the globe. Users also have the option to manually check for latest updates from the path Settings > System > System Update > Check for updates.

Alternatively, you can sign up for the EMUI 9 upgrade through Hicare (please note that the upgrade through HiCare is only available in certain countries and regions). Staff in Huawei retail stores and service centers are also able to provide upgrade support. Timings of push notifications for the new EMUI 9 upgrade will vary by country.

Huawei says that it has successfully achieved the milestone of upgrading 80 million Huawei and Honor devices to Android 9 Pie OS. Also, the company promises to make that figure to 100 million by the end of June.

The Android Pie-based EMUI 9.0 firmware brings several UI tweaks and adds new features including new navigation gestures, Huawei Share, Password Vault, SD card backups, and much more. You can find the list of EMUI 9.0 Features here.

Given the ongoing tussle between Huawei and the US government, EMUI 9 may be the company’s last Android-based release for many of its smartphones, though we hope things turn around for the company. There are reports that the company already working on its own Android-based OS called HongMeng OS (ARK OS) which might debut with its upcoming flagship smartphone i.e. the Huawei Mate 30 (Pro). Soon after, the same OS could be rollout to older Huawei and Honor smartphones.
