EMUI is a custom skin based on Android that most of the Huawei and Honor devices come pre-installed with. EMUI 9 is the new version released by Huawei which is based on Google’s latest Android 9.0 Pie OS. Most of the company’s flagship smartphones have already started receiving this major update via OTA. Huawei & Honor users can go to Settings > About phone > System updates to check for OTA updates manually. If an update is released for your model, it will show up here.
But the OTA update always releases in batches. This means few users will get the OTA update instantly while others have to wait up to a week or more. In case, if you’re among those users who doesn’t want to wait for OTA update and wanted to experience the new software right away, then here we have a step-by-step guide on how to update your Huawei / Honor device to EMUI 9 based on Android 9.0 Pie.
Being a major upgrade, the EMUI 9 update brings several new features including new SmartCare AI learning, Password Vault, HiVision Visual Search, Digital Balance dashboard, GPU Turbo 2.0, Wireless universal screen projection through Miracast, Gaming Mode, Multi-task-switching between each app, HuaweiShare, and more. On top of that, the Android 9.0 Pie also brings gesture-based navigation and redesigned volume slider.

How to Update Huawei / Honor phones to Android 9.0 Pie based EMUI 9 firmware
There are two methods through which you can update your Huawei / Honor smartphone to latest EMUI 9 firmware. Here below we have shared both the methods. You can choose any one which is more convenient to you.
Method 1: Update EMUI 9 using Huawei eRecovery
Step 1: Firstly, download and install Firmware Finder for Huawei app from Google Play Store.
Step 2: Launch the app from App Drawer. It automatically detects your device model and displays the same on screen. You need to cross verify the model from the path Settings > About phone. In case, if the model doesn’t match, then you need to manually select your model on Huawei Finder for Huawei app.
Step 3: Once selecting the model, the app will automatically redirect you to the page where you will find a list of firmware or builds ever released for your Huawei / Honor device.
Step 4: Again, you need to check whether the latest build matches the build of your phone. If so, then you need to wait for some more time till Huawei officially releases to the public. If there is new build available, you need to tap on that build number.
Step 5: Select “Get an update through eRecovery” and then tap on Next. Now you need to copy the DNS address.
Step 6: Change and apply this DNS address to your Wi-Fi router and reboot it.
Step 7: Once again, repeat steps 3, 4 and 5.
Step 8: Connect your Huawei / Honor phone to this Wi-Fi router and then tap on ‘Register Update’ followed by ‘Next’.
Step 9: Turn off your device and boot into recovery mode. To do so, you need to press and hold the Power + Volume Up button simultaneously until ‘EMUI’ logo is displayed on the screen.
Step 10: Select “Download latest version and recovery”.
That’s it! Select the Wi-Fi which you used to register your IP in step 6 and it will start downloading and installing the new Android 9.0 Pie based EMUI 9 firmware. Once done, it will automatically reboot to the latest firmware.
