How to use Huawei Mobile Cloud instead of Google Drive for WhatsApp Data Backup on any Huawei/Honor device

It’s over a year since the US government implemented a ban on the Chinese telecom giant i.e. the Huawei. Under this ban, Huawei is not allowed to trade with any of the American companies without a proper license. The same thing applies to Google, thus all the Huawei phones announced after the US-trade ban comes missing with the Google Play Services and Play Store. But, this doesn’t make Huawei fall back and comes with its own Google Mobile Services (GMS) replacement called the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). However, there are few consequences like one can’t use Google Drive to back up WhatsApp chat histories. But there is an alternative thus what we have shared here. In this guide, we have quick steps to use Huawei Mobile Cloud instead of Google Drive for WhatsApp Data Backup on any Huawei/Honor device.

Like Google Drive, Huawei Mobile Cloud also offers free data storage (limited to 5GB). This data could be chat histories, app data, and various forms of media. Recently, Huawei has upgraded its Cloud platform which will now allow users to backup and restore WhatsApp chat logs. Not only WhatsApp, but the Huawei Mobile Cloud also supports data backups from other popular social media apps like WeChat, Telegram, Facebook, Weibo, and Messenger.

According to the company, the chat backup is automatically restored when a user logs into their Huawei ID account. This means backup and restore can be done between two Huawei devices only.

Guide to use Huawei Mobile Cloud instead of Google Drive for WhatsApp Data Backup

1. Go to Settings.

2. Tap on your Huawei ID.

3. Select ‘Cloud’.

4. By default, the Cloud backup will be disabled. You need to manually enable it.

5. Tap on Backup-up options and select App Data.

6. Here you will see the list of all the social apps for which you can take a data backup.

7. Select “WhatsApp” to continue.

8. That’s it! Hereafter the WhatsApp data will be automatically backup to the Huawei Mobile Cloud.

Currently, Huawei Mobile Cloud offers 5GB of free storage which can be utilized to backup chat histories, app data, and various forms of media. If you want more storage, upgrade to paid plans which offer up to 2TB of storage.
